When is the right time to move into an Independent Living community?

Seniors often reach a point where they think about rightsizing. Their house may be more than they want or, for some, able to handle. They might start thinking it would be fun to sell the lawn mower and move somewhere maintenance-free. The ideal time to move into an independent living community is when you feel it’s time to change things up, but when you are still active enough to enjoy the lifestyle benefits of a senior living community.

Are you a not-for-profit?

Yes, Wichita Presbyterian Manor is part of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, a not-for-profit organization that has been serving seniors for more than 70 years. Our not-for-profit status means that we are able to focus all of our resources on our mission rather than serving shareholders.

How long have you been here?

Wichita Presbyterian Manor opened in 1970. Presbyterian Manor of Mid-America started in 1949, when our first location opened in Newton.

What are my Independent Living options?

The Westerly residences offer beautiful one- and two-bedroom apartments, with outdoor patios or balconies.

Do you have all levels of living?

Yes. We are a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), also known as a Life Plan Community. We have independent living, assisted living, memory care, long-term care and short-term rehabilitation.

How do your fees work? Is it a buy-in or a monthly fee?

Monthly fees begin at $3,340 for The Westerly, depending on the residence selected. Westerly only offers an entrance fee plus monthly service fee option, with the Unique Healthcare Benefit. We recommend you speak with your financial adviser about the best option for you.

Do you take Medicaid?

Medicaid does not apply to independent living.

What if I still need to sell my house?

We have a financial plan/timeline that can help you commit to your next address on our campus while your house is still on the market. Ask the marketing director for details.

Do you have additional storage?

For Westerly Residences residents, we offer a 4’ x 4’ storage area. A move of this kind usually requires anticipating future needs and making some tough decisions about furnishings and possessions. In truth, you most likely spend the majority of your time in just a few rooms of your house. We can help you in planning. We’ll work with you personally to ensure the choices you make are right for you and consistent with the way you want live.

What types of security do you offer?

Our doors are locked between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., and a team member regularly walks the buildings during those hours. The campus is gated and requires a security card for entry after 5 p.m.

Do you offer a meal plan?

Dining is an important component of our culture at Wichita Presbyterian Manor. We offer flexible meal plans with seasonal and always-available menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner so you can choose what you’d like to eat. The number of meal points you have depends on where you live on campus. Meal points may be used at The Landing or the Bistro.
