Coming soon: Jusk Ask event on dementia

Perhaps you know someone affected by dementia or are the caregiver of someone living with dementia. Dementia is not a specific disease, but an overall term that describes a group of symptoms associated with a decline in memory and thinking skills. Although this diagnosis can be worrisome, we want you to know that you are not alone.

Across America alone, millions of individuals and their family members live with the symptoms and conditions of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are progressive and, currently, irreversible brain disorders that slowly destroy memory, thinking skill, and the ability to live independently.

According to the National Institute on Aging, as many as 5.2 million Americans age 65 and older are currently estimated to be living with Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, with significant numbers developing the disease earlier than age 65.

As part of our Just Ask lifelong learning series, Wichita Presbyterian Manor sponsors a quarterly lunch and learn presentation with tips and information for caregivers of individuals dealing with the symptoms of dementia. These events are offered free of charge and lunch is included.

Our next lunch and learn will be in November. You can choose between Tuesday, November 5 or Wednesday, November 6. The event will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. To RSVP for one of the event days, contact Cherree Hudspeth at 316-942-7456 or chudspeth@pmma.org.
